That Just Means He Likes You.
According to the Irish Examiner, a survey taken in March 2019 by over 30,000 people across 40 countries by WIN international found that, 32% women between the age of 18 and 34 have experienced some form of sexual harassment in the previous 12 months. Ireland was the second highest out of all 40 countries that were surveyed and the worst in Europe. (Ó Fátharta, Irish Examiner, 2019). This project aims to highlight how it feels to be a woman who falls into this statistic. Shown through the eyes of the artist is the fear and discomfort she and many others feel doing everyday tasks. Although the scenes in the work may appear mundane to the viewer, to the unfortunately trained eye, they are intimidating and alarming.
The artist’s hope is that this project helps people recognise a need for change in the long established societal behaviours and attitudes.
