The Sensory Lab
My thesis topic was ‘Can universal sensory design aid in healing spaces’. Whilst completing this research it was proven how beneficial sensory design for the user is and how we gain immensely positive experiences from being in a space where all five senses are catered for simultaneously. Often, we forget about our senses being stimulated in everyday life. For this project I wanted to create a journey through space which allows the stimulation of all senses whilst also giving the user an immersive experience not commonly designed for. This buildings use will be changed into an immersive sensory centre which holds a cafe/bar, a pool, studios for group bookings and classes, a lecture hall, and a sensory journey experience.

My concept MILK is inspired by the form and unique structures poured milk creates. The hand drawn outlines follow the shapes the milk created. In turn, these outlines will influence this project entire design. FORM – The visible shape or configuration of something. As my project centres around sensory design, MILK was chosen carefully to ensure the involvement of all senses. Photography of the use of MILK by all five senses. Model: Marcelo Paralta.
